Akon Is Building A $6 Billion Cryptocurrency City in Senegal
After securing $4 billion from investors, Akon City, a “futuristic cryptocurrency themed city” is ready to begin construction in Senegal (West Africa). As Name suggest "Akon City" is founded by music mogul Akon. This city plans to have parks, universities, schools, a stadium, hotels, and more while using digital currency "Akoin". It will be the de facto currency in Akon City.

Akoin was  announced in 2018 and According to data from CoinMarketCap, Akoin is now one of 1600 cryptocurrencies that is being traded around the globe in an industry with a market capitalization of more than $267 billion. They plan to build a whole ecosystem around Akoin, including construction of the city and initiatives to support young entrepreneurs.

“Akoin is a cryptocurrency powered by a marketplace of tools and services fueling the dreams of entrepreneurs, business owners, and social activists as they connect and engage across the rising economies of Africa and beyond,” according to the project’s website - Akoin.io

Bloomberg reported that Akoin will be adopted across the continent and beyond, according to Jon Karas, president and co-founder of Akoin.

Akon City is located on 2000 acres on the ocean, less than an hour drive South of the new International airport in Dakar.  KE International, a U.S. Based engineering and consulting firm, was awarded the contract to build and Execute US $6 Billion Akon City, Senegal.

The government of President Macky Sall of Senegal has earmarked Akon City as a special tax zone with tax breaks to be given to the City to encourage investment.

Around the year 2006, the Senegalese American crooner made his mark with megahits like "Smack That" and "Lonely" . That was In the era of billboard toppers like Shakira, Justin Timberlake, and Kelly Clarkson,But that's not what he wants his legacy to be, as reported by Business Insider. "One of my biggest fears was just being known for singing and dancing," Akon said.

Now in 2020, when Akon's music may no longer be blasting from teenage girls' cars, but the singer is far from inactive. He's pivoted from churning out hip-hop and R&B hits to carving out a new identity as a tech entrepreneur in Africa. First there was his solar-power company. Then came his own cryptocurrency . Along the way, he bought a diamond mine in South Africa, The Guardian reported.
